On Wednesday our U13 girls went to the IAPS hockey tournament with 14 other schools from the South West. We were in a pool of seven and we had the aim of finishing in the top four in order to give ourselves a shot at the knock out stages after lunch. We played and beat Port Regis, Walhampton, Hazlegrove and Dumpton and drew with Monkton and then in the last match before the lunch break we lost to Millfield. Thirteen points was enough to see us at the top of pool 1 meaning that we now hat to play King's College Prep at 13.30. An excellent match ended at 2-1 to us and so to the semi final against Taunton School. A very hard fought game in which we could have prevailed (but didn't) meant we had to play the loser of the other semi final (Millfield or Clifton). In the end we have to say that to finish fourth is an excellent result whilst losing in the semi to the eventual winners is an excellent result.
All that doesn't tell you how well the girls all worked together, how they ran and tackled and fought for the ball. They scored plenty of goals and made me very very proud. every one of them deserves a mention
Hattie for excellent saves and positive clearing of the ball.
Alma and Bella, our rocks at the back who made tackles too many to count.
Elodie and Freya who both played on the right wing making excellent runs forward as well as chasing back with energy.
Tabby and Martha who shared the left wing slot and both showed energy, skill and desire.
Beatrix and Tilly both filled the centre forward position at different times and scored some excellent goals.
Then Rosie, what a tournament, I know she felt frustrated but that is because she has such high standards and expectations of herself. She could not have put in more effort or lead the team any better. Such an awesome captain's performance.
I am so proud of the good hockey and the great sportmanship displayed.
Well done girls
Mr Reid
